MIDDLE CULLEN'S WEST BAY --
AN ACCIDENT WAITING TO HAPPEN?

In recent years, number of residents have reported potentially dangerous situations resulting from fast-moving boats, some pulling skiers or tubers, and also PWCs.  Many of these watercraft are attempting sharp, high speed turns in the very small bay area.  Residents have reported a number of  near-accidents between moving watercraft and stationary fishing boats and docks.  They believe there is a need for a no-wake zone in the bay.   Any such designation would necessarily go through the DNR.

The CLA has requested a permanent "No-Wake Zone" sign be placed at the entrance to West Bay. We are waiting to hear from Crow Wing County Commissioners as to their decision. for the last two years, the county has installed a "No-Wake for PWC" sign that has helped somewhat.

Those of you concerned with the safety issues of this Middle Cullen bay are asked to write letters addressed to the Crow Wing County Commissioners in Brainerd outlining your concerns.  The letters should be sent to Water Surface Management Committee, Cullen Lakes Association, P.O. Box 466, Nisswa, MN 56468.  These letters and other data being collected will be presented at a meeting to be arranged with the  County.
