Weed Watch

A Great Quality of Life on the Cullen Chain of Lakes

"PROJECT WEED WATCH" UPDATE,  Fall 2001
by Tom Beaver
Editor's note:  They're not really  weeds, but that's a lot catchier than aquatic vegetation or macrophytes!

We are pleased to have over 20 volunteers from the three Cullens to inspect and map shoreline for macrophytes (water plants) this summer of 2002.  We have completed one-on-one training  with only a few inspectors and have only three maps done, so progress has been slow.  This is the year we need to complete all of our first study, so we will need to change gears to accomplish it.

The new plan:  We will conduct group, on-water training on each lake.  The Lower Cullen crew will meet at the L.C. public access at 10:00 A.M. on July 12, weather permitting  (back up date will be July 19).  The Middle Cullen crew will meet at the M.C. public access on July 15, weather permitting (back up date will beJuly 22).  The Upper Cullen crew may join either of the other two groups.  Inspectors, please RSVP to me regarding your ability to attend.

Bring your information packets and maps.  Dress appropriately.  We will cruise part of the shoreline on a pontoon and learn how to identify plants and map their locations.
